Beginnings and Early Days

Twenty four years ago (2001), in a small studio tucked away in the Dublin suburbs, founder Paul Wilson had a dream: to create a radio station that was a refuge from the relentless pace of hit‑after‑hit playlists, from intrusive advertising and from shouting presenters. Paul’s idea: A radio station that played easy listening, love songs, throwbacks and a steady flow of easy listening favourites that soothed more than spoke. So began Easy Radio

With thin resources, basic equipment and a small studio Easy Radio joined a growing number of pirate radio stations on the Dublin radio dial. The station’s modest FM signal reached only parts of the Greater Dublin area at first, but that changed when a bigger and more powerful signal transmitting from the Dublin mountains was introduced. Online streaming soon followed opening doors for listeners not just in Dublin or Ireland but in countries all across the world.

Challenges and Internet Broadcasting

As Easy Radio settled in and its audience grew, so did the challenges. Broadcasting regulations shifted and the Irish authorities cracked down on pirate operators and Easy Radio found itself with an uncertain future. Ever the innovator Paul looked to the world of online broadcasting as a means to protect and ensure Easy Radio’s future.

Working hard to hold onto its identity in this new medium Easy Radio carefully curated its playlists to include classic ballads, soft pop, occasional folk and love songs. Music that had stood the test of time. Over the years, Easy Radio evolved, embracing new technology such as mobile apps and social media. As Easy radio grew so too did it’s online presence. Today Easy Radio has a large and loyal listenership across the world as well as its traditional Irish base.

The Future

Twenty four years is a long time in broadcasting. Trends come and go and technologies change yet Easy Radio has shown its staying power and that there is a place for a radio station that isn’t chasing the loudest voice or flashiest gimmick. A station that is always there when you turn on your radio, a friend and an easy voice.
